Post 8: Social Justice

My favorite subject until now has been Social Justice, a course given by Paula Vidal. The most imporant part of the course is the different types of democracy there are, giving a detailed explanation of each kind and the examples of it the are around the world. Besides, there is a part of the course destined to the different kinds of social struggles that arise in relation to the rise of the neoliberal state. What I liked the most about the subject was that I didn’t know about all the varied ways a State can function in regards to the globalization of capital. I also liked the way Vidal introduces marxism into the critique of the modern state and the chilean government since the Dictatorship and the new economic system it installed. The way this can be linked to social work gave me a new understanding of the impact our profession can have in  the lives of people and the abolition of the system. Finally, I can say that this course gave me a lot of different tolos to implement chang...

POST 7: My favorite post-marxist author

Maybe he’s not someone specifically linked to Social Work, but one of the most important characters from the XX century, in regards to Marxist theory is Antonio Gramsci. I love the new terms in which he works the concept of ideology in the new capitalist societies. But his theory about the way in which culture appears inside the reproduction of the hegemony of the capitalist State is my favorite. This theory, through culture, is very important in the ways it can be applied to Social Work, in the Marxist perspective within the profession, and also in other different aspects of society. What I like the most about Gramsci is the struggle he kept while being in prison during the fascist era of Italy during the 1930’s, a lot of his works and books being written from jail. He was someone who was always with the communist fight in hard times. And his importance is such that he inspired and influenced greatly other post-marxist authors like Louis Althusser and others.

POST 6: My favorite sport hobbie

One of my favorite sports is riding a bike, even though I hated it when I was a kid. I don’t know what went through my head until two years ago when I saved up some money and bought myself a “fixie” bike. At the beginning it was hard learning to ride again, until I got the rhythm and got myself a group of friends with who I could ride everywhere. Sometimes we go to the San Cristóbal or the Panul Hill. Other times we’ve gone to Pomaire, San José of Maipo, or other places at the outskirts of Santiago, so I can spend more time away from home.

This photo was taken in April 1961, i don't know who's take it but doesn't matter. The important thing in this photo is the Cuban Revolution sealed his socialist character. I think this photo is very important to mudial history and he shows the commitment of the cuban People to the revolution and Fidel Castro initiating in this way a socialist process that will influence in all LatinAmerica. The context on this photo is after the attack of the United States in a series of airports in Cuba, when was a lots of people dead. In the funeral of this people when Fidel Castro and Ernesto "Che" Guevara was present. They gave weapons to the Cuban people to defend the Cuban Revolution and the socialism he had achieved in the island. This photo i think, never is used or seen as key moment of mankind, i think that is real since it is an important moment in history of the fight of the people and their liberation against imperialism.

The football, the most important in the life.

When I think about the things I like to do the most, I always put football first. I don't know how or when it started, but my passion for football has taken up most of  my time since I can remember. Whether it's playing it myself, going to the stadium to see my favorite players or simply watching a match on TV, football is easily the sport I love the most, especially when I get to see a game live on a stadium, because then I can spend some time with my friends who are also football fans and understand what it's like to be so passionate about it. Besides, going to the stadium is a great way to de-stress after a long week of dealing with responsabilities and school stuff. Overall, football helps me unwind and have fun, specially after long periods of stress.

Post Nº2 Why did you choose to study this study programme?

When i was a child my dream was to be a dentist, but as I grew older I realized that biology was not what I liked the most. Another dream I always had was to be a soccer player but but he was not very good at playing soccer. Whatever, to this day I still play soccer anyway. When i was at the high school i never think a lot what to study, i never was a good student, so i didn't worry much. But last year i saw a lot of University programs and the only one I liked was Spanish literature. But finally i saw the laboral oportunity and i don't like at all. At that moment i saw Social Work and nd I realized that it was what I liked the most. Because you work with the people but at the same time society had to be understood. That was i always dreamed. My experience at university has been very good I have met a lot of cool people and I have learned a lot about many topics. In the future i see my self working in some public institution or doing some social res...
